Scan of buds in Camissonia brevipes ssp. brevipes | Scanned at 1200 dpi. Area shown is 16 mm by 12 mm. The concept illustrated by this image is "sepal tips in bud free and subterminal." The only other desert species of Camissonia that has sepal tips in bud free and subterminal is C. claviformis ssp. claviformis and ssp. peirsonii. However that species and subspecies tend to open at dusk, rather than mid-day.

No. 1407, 8 Jun 2016, characters observed: Perennial herb, to 20 cm., glabrous, except as noted; Stem, short, to 4 cm., but definitely there; Leaves, petiole, 90 mm., blade, 90 mm. × 28 mm. wide, oblanceolate, margin toothed, straight hairy; Buds, sparsely hairy on veins; Flowers, solitary in axils, floral tube 100 mm., petals, 37 mm., yellowish, most drying purplish; Stigma, 4-lobed; Capsule, 27 mm. × 5 mm. wide, valve ridges not tuberculate. The leaves are toothed and not deeply lobed or deeply toothed, and there are no tubercules on the valve ridges of the capsules. Therefore, I am using var. macroglottis rather than var. marginata.

No. 1166, 24 Jun 2015, characters observed: Caespitose annual or short-lived perennial herb, to 10 cm.; Leaves, mostly basal, petiole 44 mm. + blade 33 mm. × 14 mm. wide, ovate, margins entire and toothed; Buds erect; Corolla, 32 mm., limb 56 mm., white, fading lavender; Anthers versatile, attached in middle; Pollen, with viscin threads; Stigma, lobes, 4; Fruit, unknown, fortunately not necessary to key in Taylor (2010), though required in most other floras.
