Annual (biennial or short-lived perennial), to 40-50 cm., ±gray-tomentose, scapose; Leaves alternate, petiole 40 mm. + blade 25 mm., ovate, pinnate-lobed; Inflorescence, heads solitary, radiate, 3.5-4.0 cm. dia., flowers of two kinds, some with strap-shaped corollas; Head, hemispheric, radiate; Involucre 6 mm.; Phyllaries, in 2+ series, overlapping, ±equal, erect, tomentose, margins not scarious, long spreading hairs; Receptacle, hemispheric, epaleate; Pappus 0; Ray flowers, #32+, corolla, yellow, 13 mm. × 9 mm. wide, 3-lobed, when dry persistent papery reflexed; Fruit achene, 3.5 mm., ±equally ribbed, ±smooth (minutely papillate on ribs), observed to be compressed in one specimen (Described from Coll. Annual, to 20 cm., tap-rooted; Leaves, basal and cauline, to 40 mm., finely pinnately 2° divided, margins not spiny; Inflorescence, no strap-shaped flowers, flowers of 1 kind; Phyllaries, in 2 overlapping series; Receptacle paleate, 9 mm., appearing ≥1 mm. above buds; Pappus of short, 0.6 mm., scales (Described from Coll. No. 348, 20 April 2004).

Annual, tap-rooted, to 35 cm.; Stem variously branched, proximal hairs 0, distally minutely glandular; Leaves, alternate, to 7 cm., deeply pinnately lobed below to entire above; Inflorescence, single heads on 5 cm. peduncles, flowers of two kinds in same heads, outer corollas not strap- shaped, head radiant; Phyllaries in 2+ series, ±equal length, outermost sometimes subtending a ray flower, without embedded oil gland, margin green, tip acute; Pappus of scales, few, one long (6 mm.) appearing among disc flowers remainder short, margins ragged; Corollas white; Fruit, 6 mm., dark brown (Described from Coll. Annual or biennial, to 60 cm., Stem, tomentose, ribbed; Leaves, alternate, 40 mm., sessile, not clasping, lanceolate, spiny lobed (not compound), both surfaces wooly; Inflorescence, solitary heads, no flowers with strap-shaped corollas, flowers of 1 kind; Involucre to 25 mm. × 60 mm. wide; Phyllaries, in many series, abaxial face without, or with very small, resinous ridge, outer margins variously minutely decorated (with hairs, spines, and cilia), inner entire, tip spines 8 mm.; Receptacle, simple bristles, 4 mm.; Corolla, tube 13 mm. + throat 7 mm. + lobes 9 mm. Annual, tap-rooted, wooly, to 4 cm., cobwebby, not gland-dotted; Leaves, cauline, alternate, to 9 mm., sessile or very short-petioled, obovate, entire, without embedded oil glands; Peduncle, (6)8-15 mm.; Inflorescence, some flowers with strap-shaped corollas, head radiate, composed of 2 kinds of flowers; Phyllaries, in 1 series (ஃequal), flat, 5 mm., without embedded oil glands; Receptacle epaleate, conical (TJM2 says “hemispheric”), slightly pitted; Pappus, 6-8 short (0.5 mm.) scales, ±equal, on both ray and disk flowers; Corollas, yellow, ray tube 1 mm. + blade 5 mm., not papery, deciduous; Anther tips awl-like (almost look hair-like); Fruit, 2 mm., black, some appressed hairy (Described from Coll. Annual herb, to 35 cm.; Stem, glabrous, branching various, from base to distal ½; Leaves, basal and cauline, alternate, length 7.5 cm. × 2.5 cm. wide, much reduced above, lanceolate, deeply pinnately divided; Inflorescence, heads enclosed by an involucre, overtopping the leaves; Involucre, near cylindric, 22 mm.; Phyllaries, unequal, in 3+ graduated series, 8-22 mm., margins flat, chartaceous, centers green; Receptacle, epaleate; Flowers, rays only, surpassing phyllaries by 5-10 mm., Pappus, many well-developed plumose bristles, ±equal; Fruit, 6 mm., light brown, beak 4 mm. Annual, tap-rooted, to 25-30 cm., green, non-parasitic, inland; Stem, erect, straight hairy; Leaf, alternate, 50-65 mm. × 6-14 mm. wide, somewhat reduced above, entire, bulbous hairy, not glaucus; Inflorescence, coiled, spike-like cyme; Calyx, 2-3 lobes separate + 1-2 lobes fused = 3-4 lobes, notched at tip, white hairy; Receptacle conic (not as conspicuous as in Cryptantha); Corolla, yellow/orange, ±tubular, 8 mm. × limb 1.5 mm.; Anthers (fill floral tube and are probably appressed to stigma); Ovary, deeply lobed, style base hidden within lobes; Nutlets, #3, erect, 3 mm. × 2.5 mm. × 1.5 mm., deltate, scar lateral, flat, without thick rim, surface cobblestone-like, margin prickles 0 (Described from Coll. No. 271, 24 April 2001, and Coll. No. 343, 20 April 2004).

- Winters Pass, Plants were found on stony-mantled ground on the small hill just north of the pass. Winters Pass is on Kingston Road where it passes through the Mesquite Mountains, 12.7 miles north of US Interstate 15 Exit 272 at Cima Road, then 5.7 miles north northwest on Kingston Road. Annual, 18-25 cm., taller than wide, pustulate appressed hairy throughout; Leaves, cauline, alternate, sessile, 20 mm. × 3 mm. wide, margin entire; Inflorescence, not bracteate; Pedicel, 0 mm.; Calyx, rounded at base, 2.7 mm. × 1.7 mm. wide, 3 mm. in fruit, hairs straight (not hooked) throughout; Corolla, limb 2.6 mm., white; Nutlets, generally #1, ventral groove central, margin sharp but not flattened or wing-like, papillate with few small spines. Green annual plant, single tap root, 10-20 cm., glandular, staining newsprint; Leaves mostly basal and few cauline, alternate, deeply pinnately-lobed, petioled; Inflorescence coiled; Calyx lobes equal, 5 mm x 1.5 mm wide, ob-linear (!), entire, tip rounded, only mid-rib raised, glandular, sinus appendages 0; Corolla deciduous in fruit, blue (?, small amount of color remaining in dried specimens, photo shows color); Petals fused 9 mm. + free 2 mm. = 11 mm.; Stamens, all attached at same level, included, different lengths (2,2,1), ±5 mm.; Filaments free, glabrous; Ovary obovoid, 4 mm, entire to not deeply-lobed, hairy distally; Style 1, attached to top of ovary, hairy proximally, 3-4 mm, 2-lobed, included; Seeds 8, 1.2 mm, nearly black, cross-furrowed (Described from TAS Coll. No. 273.1, 24 Apr 2011, Coll. #311, 25 May 2003, and #443, 27 March 2005). Compared to P. bicolor, the leaves of P. fremontii tend to be less compound and the tips more rounded, and the calyx lobes are more rounded.

Annual, to 25 cm., tap-rooted; Stem strongly erect, 0-branched, glandular above middle; Leaves, alternate, petiole 7 mm., blade 22 mm., all deeply lobed to mid-rib, appearing compound, leaflets toothed, except distally; Pedicels in fruit 0.5 mm., stout (not thread-like); Calyx, 5 sepals, 5 mm. × 1 mm. wide, > fruit, elliptic (maybe) or oblanceolate; Corolla blue, deciduous; Style, 7 mm., divided 4.5 mm., exserted; Fruit, 3 mm., ovoid; Ovules, 1 per chamber, 4 per fruit, Seed, 2.5 mm., ovoid, pitted on both sides, ±ridged on adaxial side, but not grooved (Described from Coll. No. 355, 20 April 2004).

- Mesquite Mountains, At the end of a cherry-stem road into the North Mesquite Mountains Wilderness, 1.4 miles by road north of Winters Pass, then 1.6 miles by road west to end of road; about 21 miles by road north of the Cima Road exit on US Interstate 15.
