Erigeron speciosus (Lindl.) DC.  Aspen Fleabane.

Morrison Creek, Jefferson County, Colorado. Buffalo Creek Recreation Area, along Morrison Creek and former National Forest Road 547, 2.30 km. south of National Forest Road 550, 62.9 km. south of the GNIS location of Golden. 39.3225°N, 105.2837°W. WGS 1984 Elev. 2423 m. Ray flowers white fading lavender, basal leaves withered on some plants. Banks of Morrison Creek, at north end of a opening in the forest or “meadow” with many down trees.

No. 2645, 5 Aug 2021, characters observed: Perennial herb, to 40 cm., rhizomatous; Stem, glabrous to glandular distally; Leaves, basal (some withered) and lower cauline, petiole 20 mm. + blade 25 mm. × 10 mm. wide, elliptic, margin ciliate, upper cauline, sessile, 25 mm. × 5 mm. wide, lanceolate, finely glandular, tips, small rounded tip (apiculate?); Inflorescence, >leaves, 2-3 heads per stem, showy; Phyllaries, ±equal, in 2 series, 6 mm. × 1 mm. wide, green, with chartaceous margin and tip, glandular; Receptacle, epaleate; Flowers, of 2 kinds; Ray flowers, many, tube 2-3 mm. + blade 11-12 mm. × 1 mm. wide = 16 mm., white fading lavender, fertile; Disk flowers, many, tube 3.5 mm. + lobes 0.5 mm., yellow, open, bisexual; Pappus, many, well-developed, 2 series, longest 3 mm., tawny; Cypsela, 1.3 mm., compressed, brown, hairy.
