Tetradymia canescens DC.  Spineless Horsebush.

Trout Creek Pass, Chaffee County, Colorado. Along Chaffee County Road 311, about 0.8 mi. west of its intersection with US Highway 285 at Trout Creek Pass, 149 km. southwest of the GNIS location of Golden. 38.908°N, 105.9888°W. WGS 1984 Elev. 2883 m. Collected with Hymenoxys richardsonii var. floribunda. A Western Cordilleran plant, also collected at Mono Lake, California.

Coll. No. 2190, 5 August 2019, characters observed: Perennial, woody shrub, 15 cm.; Stem, tomentose, thinning in age; Leaves, cauline, alternate, 10 mm. × 2.6 mm. wide, tomentose, margin, entire, tip, acute; Inflorescence, head enclosed by an involucre, not overtopped by leaves; Peduncles, 10-12 mm.; Involucre, 8 mm. × 4 mm. wide, cylindric, tomentose, Phyllaries, #4 in 1 series (altho' it really looks to me like they are paired in vertical ranks), ±equal, 8 mm. × 2.7 mm. wide, tomentose, margins, flat, scarious; Receptacle, epaleate; Flowers, 1 kind; Disk flowers, #4, tube 7.5 mm. + lobes 3 mm., throat expanding above tube, yellow, glabrous; Pappus, well-developed bristles, 2 unequal series, 1 mm., 6.5 mm., plumose; Anthers, 3 mm., tailed; Style, 2-branched, tips, 0.2 mm. ±brush-like appendages; Stigma, 1 mm., > style appendages; Fruit (cypsela), 2 mm, hairy.
