Canyon cut by the Escalante River, just below the town of Escalante. This canyon is not the canyon named Escalante Canyon.

As an application of their criteria-based methodology for determining the mechanism of transverse drainage development, Douglass, et al. (2009) determined superimposition as the mechanism for transverse drainage of the Escalante River just below Escalante.
