Small mountain range northeast of Marbella.Possibly considered part of Sierra de Mijas. Accessed via A355 and Ojen, which is bounded by Sierra Blanca on the west, and Sierra Alpujata on the east.

Composed of the Ronda peridotite, along with the Sierra Bermeja, and the Sierra de Aguas and Sierra de la Robla of the Carratraca massif.

The Sierra Alpujata was an important mining area by its wealth in iron deposits, nickel, lead, talc and dunite. The iron mine of the Peñoncillo operated by an English company was famous that employed to neighboring numeros of Ojén and Marbella.

Minerals were transported to the coast by a tramway of which the towers can still be seen. The trade name Ferarco was the last operating company of the region's mining wealth, primarily magnetite.
