Name given to the present day Caruthers Canyon.

Sharp (1984) refers to George Carruthers who lived in Fouth of July Canyon in 1920-21. Collection locality of Alexander and Kellogg in 1940.

Later, this name was applied to the next canyon to the west, and the name Caruthers Canyon was applied.
