Eastern Mojave Vegetation Sanhedrin Mountain, Mendocino County, California.

Gazetteer

Query: G.N.I.S.

The name of the peak is given as Sanhidrim on the von Leicht-Craven map of 1874. A few years later the Coast Survey established a triangulation station there and used the present spelling. The region was first settled by Missourians; it is possible that they named the mountain after Mount Sanhedrin in their home state, which in turn may have been named after the supreme council of the Jews.
