Small city in a pass between the San Joaquin Valley and the Mojave Desert. The name was placed on a map as Tah-ee-chay-pah Pass by the Pacific Railroad Survey in 1853; "from the Indians we learned that their name for the creek was Tah-ee-chay-pah (Gudde, 1969)."
