There is a nice exposure of Latham Shale between Summit Spring and the Providence Mine. The photograph at left shows Julie looking for trilobite fossils in the Latham Shale.

Providence Mine and the Frisco Group

This group of mines comprises at least 6 claims in the Kelso Mining District. There are a number of shafts and tunnels 200-400 ft. deep. The mines have apparently been idle since 1926. The last known owner was P. Thibedeau of Kelso, CA. The photograph at left shows Roland, Scott, Jim, Julie and Gray in front of the powder house at the Providence Mine.
