Tom,

I have just taken your last shipment from the freezer and prepared it for mounting. I hope we'll get them mounted within a couple of weeks, but I'm short handed at the moment because of field season -- I'm only here 2 days a week myself. Within a month or so anyway.

I have new IDs on a couple and have 2 others set aside to work on:

514 Agrostis stolonifera? (some Agrostis anyway)
926 Prunus emarginata

The others still to be worked on are:

958 Mentzelia sp. (not albicaulis)
927 Calyptridium -- which you asked about, but I've not worked on yet.

The other IDs all look OK to me.

I'm in the field tomorrow and most of next week, but I'll get to these last two ASAP.

Thanks again!

Best wishes

Andy

Hi Tom,

The town of Ackman is in the curvy area of this google map: https://www.google.com/maps/@37.5674854,-108.7652825,446m/data=3D!3m1!1e3 - on Road 15.5 between AA and BB. There are two new houses flanking the old town. The dump was right at the junction of the curve as it heads back east and the new driveway.

There were numerous small communities in the area: Yellow Jacket, Sylvan, Ackman, Pleasant View, etc. After 666 was put in, the Post offices and stores that remained were Pleasant View and Yellow Jacket. The original store at Ackman was ran by Horace and Calvin Denton - they also moved their store to Pleasant View.

My mother was born in Ackman. - sadly, I can't remember more history, but there are still people in the area who know it.

Finding the desert gentian closer to Lowry would make sense in that it would be almost due north of where 8 miles west of Ackman would be. To get to 8 miles W Ackman, you would have to go North to BB and then West to either CR 10 or CR 8 - and there are nice little canyons with lots of pinyons and junipers!

Hi Mary,

You seem to have two vouchers of Marcus E. Jones #299, collections of Polemonium from a location "Foothills near Golden [Colorado]."

One is determined Polemonium caeruleum L and the other is determined Polemonium foliosissimum A. Gray.

P. caeruleum seems a little out of range for Golden, and I'm wondering if these vouchers might be two vouchers of the same collection and both might be Polemonium foliosissimum A. Gray.

I know it's a lot to ask, but I wonder if you might have a look at them. If not, it's OK, it can wait until the next time I come through Logan.

Regards,

Tom

Note: On November 25th, Mary Barkworth replied:

Tom, I finally looked at these ad you are right. Both are P. foliosissumum. Jones labelled both as P. caeruluem var. foliosissimum but Gray called the taxon a species when he named it. I have amended out records. Thank you for bringing it to my attention. I marked it for follow up but that is apparently no guarantee that I shall look to see what I need to follow up on. Mary
