Named location near Golden.
In 1904, British real estate developer Rees C. Vidler owned the land as part of his Lookout Mountain Resort Company. He donated 56 acres to Denver Encourage development of a "scenic" park adjacent to his residential plat. Vidler built a funicular from Golden to his real estate office on Lookout Mountain and endorsed Golden resident William William for construction of the Lariat Trail (Jefferson County Historical Commission, 2013) .
The Lookout Mountain Botany Trip, June 23
This trip was made by a party of twenty-five, of whom twenty-three traveled
to Golden on the street car and rode to the top of Lookout Mountain by
The leader, Miss Katharine Brudeline, furnished each member of the
party with a manifolded list of trees, shrubs, and flowers which were likely to
Nearly all of these and a number of specimens not on the list
were identified and duscissed in the course of the day.
The total number of specimens identified was one hundred and twenty-eight.
The route taken was from Lookout Mountain through Vidler's Gulch, across Mountain Parks road, and down the valley running on the south side of Colorow Point into
Rilliet's Gulch, and thence to Sprucedale Park, where lunch was eaten by the
well near Harvey Cottage.
The return journey was made over Colorow Point and by trail thence to Golden
